Services for Children and Adolescents
Parents want the best for their children; they want them to do well. Therefore, it is distressing for parents to see their children struggle – which usually manifests in school, home or social situations. It is particularly frustrating when parents do not know why their children are having difficulty and therefore, do not know how to help. That’s when BHI can help.
The initial step may require an evaluation – and Psychologists are the Evaluation Experts. Our psychologists, who specialize in working with children and adolescents, can administer and interpret evaluations for:
- Learning Disabilities (LD)
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Behavioral Assessment
- Emotional and Personality Problems
- Autism Spectrum
- Psychoeducational Assessment
- Aptitude and Achievement
- Neuropsychological Assessment
Once the evaluation process is completed, your psychologist will provide feedback on the results and make appropriate recommendations for interventions, much of which can be provided right here at BHI. We will also coordinate with other professionals working with your child.
Interventions and services may include:
- Play therapy for younger children
- Behavior therapies for targeted problem behaviors
- Individual therapies for skill development, communication, coping and self-control
- Parenting sessions to assist parents with techniques to help their children
- Group therapies (e.g. social skills, divorce adjustment)
- Family therapy to include the family as needed in working with the child
Psycho-educational consultation:
There are times a child’s needs are difficult to identify, or interventions or school resources do not seem to be making enough of a difference. At other times, parents are concerned about their child’s placement or want help in choosing the best school or program that meets their child’s needs. In these cases, it may be helpful to have a consultation with one of our experts. This consultation will be like a “second opinion.” The first part will consist of a review of all available records, an interview with the parent(s), and an interview with the child. The second part is a feedback session which will include a summary of the findings and recommendations.
